St. Mary’s Caring Ministry

ASL

One of the outreach programs provided by St. Mary’s is Caring Ministries. Caring ministers, or care-givers, are assigned a care receiver on a most confidential basis. Care receivers are members of the parish wanting someone to listen or accompany them through a difficult time. Typical problems faced by care receivers are aging, illness, job loss, addiction, or divorce.

Care-givers receive 16 hours of training in listening skills, concentrating on areas which arise because of crisis experienced by care receivers. Currently there are five care-givers, most with at least one and some with two care receivers. Care-givers meet on the first and third Wednesdays of each month for an hour or so to discuss issues they are experiencing with care receivers, offering support to one another, and having ongoing education in the areas where there is a need.

If you are interested in becoming a care-giver, or if you wish to be a care receiver, please contact Peter Crary who chairs this group.
