A Message from our Interim Rector – Christmas Day Service Added

2015-12-19_0105+Christmas Day Service 2015

Dear Friends in Christ,

In this season of gift giving, we are reminded here at St. Mary’s that the greatest gift we have received is the love of God who came to us as a baby in Bethlehem’s stable. And yet, even that gift is one, which we can only fully realize as we share it with those around us. The gift of Christmas was not simply a “one-time-only” event in our lives. Christmas happens again and again, as that most precious gift gets passed forward in word and deed to those around us.

This has been a particularly full year for the community at St. Mary’s – full of changes, full of sorrows, full of possibilities, full of new hopes. But most of all, it has been full of the presence of God, who lies at that center of our life together. It is that presence for which we give thanks, not only at Christmas, but every day.

We invite you to join us for our Christmas services this year, all of which will include the celebration of Holy Communion. They are as follows:

Christmas Eve, December 24

04:00 p.m. – Festive Christmas Eve service
11:00 p.m. – Festive Christmas Eve Night Mass with Choir (preceded by carols)

Christmas Day, December 25

10:30 a.m. – Christmas Day Holy Eucharist

This year especially, we encourage you to invite your friends and family to join you on this most holy occasion, as we offer ourselves in thanksgiving for God’s many blessings in our lives.

Bob Honeychurch, Interim Rector

+Blue Christmas Service

December 20, 2015 - 5:00 pm

On this day, St. Mary’s of Laguna Beach, will hold a special service that honors people that have recently lost loved ones, or wish to remember in memorial loved ones from years past at this Christmas time. We know that it is difficult to see joy in the face of loss, and that there can be loneliness and sadness that comes with mourning. We also know that being present with our true feelings in community allows us to also experience a greater sense of peace and hope.

This year we also wish to honor those innocents who have lost their lives to tragedy here and abroad, knowing their memories live on as long we stop to remember. It is a service for folks from all walks of life that wish and pray for a kinder, gentler world for all of humanity.

We hope you’ll join us in remembering and in the lighting of candles to symbolize bringing light in to the world!

wounded_warriors+Advent Outreach Program 2015

St Mary’s Episcopal Church, Laguna Beach, has chosen Wounded Warriors Family Support, or WWFS, as their Advent Outreach Program this year. WWFS reaches out to combat-wounded veterans and their families across the country, with four different programs, offering respite for caregivers, modified vehicles, family retreats and job training. Wounded warriors’ war does not end when they return home. They and their families are usually under tremendous stress, trying to cope with loss and adjustments on many levels. WWFS addresses their needs in a very practical way.

St Mary’s places a card on the Christmas tree in the church for every $10 received. Please consider joining us in giving generously to this very worthwhile cause - checks should be made out to St Mary’s with “WWFS” on the memo line, and sent to St Mary’s at 428 Park Avenue, Laguna Beach, CA, 92651. Perhaps you would like to give $10 or more, in honor or memory of a friend or relative who has served their country. We will also be inviting our Christmas visitors to join us in this effort, and of course we extend this invitation to our Laguna Beach community. Our program runs from November 29th through December 31st. At the conclusion of our campaign, ALL funds received will be forwarded to WWFS.

These wounded warriors have given so much for us, and now it is our turn to give back to them and their families. For further information, please visit the following website: woundedwarriorsfamilysupport.org or contact Kevin Sander at WWFS: 1-402-991-0857

For further information concerning contributions, contact St Mary’s parish office at (949) 494-3542 or parishoffice@stmaryslb.org

Merry Christmas...
